House Blackfyre was founded by Daemon Blackfyre, a legitimized Great Bastard of King Aegon IV 'The Unworthy.' The Blackfyre Rebellions — five civil wars between the mainline Targaryens and the Blackfyre pretenders — shaped Westerosi history for a century. The Great Bastards include Bloodraven (who became the Three-Eyed Raven), Bittersteel (founder of the Golden Company), and Shiera Seastar.

Young Prince Aegon "Egg" Targaryen, squire to Ser Duncan the Tall in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, eventually becomes King Aegon V "The Unlikely." His grandson is Aerys II, the Mad King who was overthrown by Robert Baratheon. Aerys's children — Rhaegar, Viserys, and Daenerys — drive the central conflicts of Game of Thrones. Jon Snow is secretly Rhaegar's son, making him Egg's great-great-grandson.
Maester Aemon at Castle Black is Egg's older brother — born Aemon Targaryen, son of King Maekar I. He forswore the crown and joined the Night's Watch, living to over 100 years old. He mentored both Jon Snow and Samwell Tarly, and was one of Daenerys's few living relatives, though they never met.
Brynden "Bloodraven" Rivers, one of the Great Bastards of Aegon IV, appears in the Dunk & Egg stories as Hand of the King and master of spies. He later joined the Night's Watch, ventured beyond the Wall, and merged with a weirwood tree — becoming the Three-Eyed Raven who trains Bran Stark centuries later. Played by Max von Sydow in Game of Thrones.
The towering hedge knight Dunk becomes Lord Commander of the Kingsguard and dies alongside Egg at the Tragedy at Summerhall. Book lore strongly implies he is an ancestor of Brienne of Tarth — both share exceptional height and a deep sense of honor. Brienne eventually becomes Lord Commander of the Kingsguard herself, mirroring Dunk's path.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms begins around 209 AC. Game of Thrones starts around 298 AC. The events at the Ashford Tourney, the Blackfyre Rebellions, and the Tragedy at Summerhall all echo through the later story — from the Golden Company (founded by Bittersteel) that Cersei hires in Season 8, to the Valyrian steel dagger that Arya uses to kill the Night King.
